Joy Cometh in the Morning was originally written for trombone octet and premiered at the 2018 International Trombone Festival Composers’ Workshop Showcase. Yu Tamaki Hoso asked me to arrange this work for solo trombone and piano after hearing the trombone octet version in November of 2021, and he gave the solo arrangement premiere in Tokyo in May of 2022. Gene Pokorny was at the same concert as Yu Tamaki Hoso in November 2021, and this version for solo tuba or bass trombone and piano is dedicated to him.

Length: 5 minutes

Range: The solo part only uses a range of an octave plus a major 3rd. Lowest note is E2, highest note is Ab3.
